The roof area , skirting and upstands form the three key areas in asphalting a roof.

1. The main roof area will consist of a membrane such as Permanite Black Sheathing Felt followed by a covering of 2 coats of Mastic Asphalt to a thickness of 20mm in accordance with BS 8218 , in rare cases where the fall of the roof is higher than the norm 3 layers will be laid to a thickness of 30mm.

 2. Skirting and Upstands with a height of up to 300mm should be applied in two coats of Mastic Asphalt to a thickness of 13mm. Again if the height exceeds this then 20mm of Mastic Asphalt should be applied.

 3.Before allowing the asphalt to cool sand is applied to the roof (Sand Rubbing) to provide some kind of surface grip. 

4.Solar reflecting paint can be applied in 2 coats to the roof area thus giving extra protection and adding a cosmetic finished look.
